Back in the early days of Altra, I was testing new prototypes constantly. The annoying part was testing new trail shoes all the time and having to use super glue on every single new pair of shoes to glue velcro on the back to be able to attach my strapless trail gaiters. One day it occurred to me that we could just have the shoes come from the factory with the velcro style closure built on to the back of the shoes.
